Six new classrooms from the “STEAM: Transforming Education” project were recently inaugurated during a series of visits to public schools throughout Playas de Rosarito. The third phase of the initiative is expected to benefit at least 1,500 students during the 2026–2027 school year.

The initiative is promoted and funded by the Consejo Consultivo de Desarrollo Económico de Playas de Rosarito (CCDER) through resources from the Baja California Business Trust (FIDEM) and is part of the work carried out by the Coordinación de Vinculación Educativa en Rosarito (CVER), CCDER’s educational partnership initiative.

During the inauguration activities, representatives visited schools ranging from preschool through middle school to present the new spaces designed to strengthen learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

Representing CCDER during the visits were Gabriela Macías, Council Member, and Martha Mendoza, Executive Director, who participated in the tour of the schools benefiting from this third phase of the program.

The schools included in the initiative are:

  • Benemérito de las Américas Elementary School
  • Abraham Lincoln Elementary School
  • Benito Juárez Elementary School
  • Amado Nervo Technical Middle School No. 37
  • Octavio Paz Preschool
  • Forjadores de Rosarito General Middle School No. 215
  • Club Rotario No. 1 Preschool
  • José Vasconcelos Preschool

The project represents an investment of more than MXN $900,000, allocated to program development and coordination, technology equipment, teacher training and the educational materials required for implementation.

“We are talking about an initiative that will bring this educational model to 1,500 public school students in Playas de Rosarito. Our goal is to provide them today with tools and knowledge that expand their opportunities while beginning to develop the talent our municipality’s economic growth will require in the years ahead,” said César Rivera González, President of CCDER.

In addition to upgrading and equipping six new STEAM classrooms, the project includes training for approximately 70 teachers in STEAM methodologies, providing them with tools to develop interdisciplinary, collaborative and innovative learning processes.

The initiative will also develop educational content and teaching resources adapted to the local context, helping connect classroom learning with the challenges and opportunities of the region’s economic sectors.

Each classroom will include appropriate furniture, improved lighting and digital connectivity, as well as interactive technology, displays, projectors and audiovisual equipment.

The project also includes 10 tablets per classroom, for a total of 60 devices, designed to support independent learning and collaborative work among students.

STEAM education is expected to contribute to the development of human capital with skills related to strategic industries such as:

  • Technology
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Engineering
  • Digital design
  • Biotechnology

The program also seeks to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and stronger connections between education and the region’s economic activities.

Another important component of the project is the participation of the school communities themselves. Parents, students and teachers will be involved in the transformation and use of the new learning spaces through informational activities, workshops and collaborative initiatives.

Through this third phase, CCDER continues the work carried out during previous stages of “STEAM: Transforming Education,” which introduced specialized classrooms and teacher training and is now expanding the program’s reach and further establishing the educational model in Playas de Rosarito.

These efforts contribute to the development of an educational model designed to better prepare new generations through skills such as critical thinking, creativity, experimentation and problem-solving, while maintaining a direct connection to the municipality’s economic and workforce development.
